SARALAND, Ala. A new $72 million sports complex, called “The Land,” is now open and it is a beautiful complex!
This new community facility is bright, well equipped and offers everything from rock climbing walls to indoor courts, a walking trail and so much more.
Mayor Joe McDonald said that this project has been in the making for around 15 years.
“The community is going to have something to do here. We’ve got indoor courts,” Mayor McDonald started. “We’ve got a walking trail, workout facilities, rock climbing walls for the kids. We’ve got party rooms for the kids. Everything that you need for anything that you want to do as far as event goes, we have it here.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Friday morning marked the official opening of the 80,000 square facility, and brought out community members and city leaders.
Margaret Moore said she has been waiting for something like this in Saraland for a very long time.
The Land is a place to play and show off your competitive side. The Land will host family competitions and large tournaments, said the mayor.
“We’ve got right at 50 tournaments already lined up for the facility, and that includes all different sports,” Mayor McDonald said.
He also said, The Land, a 100-acre multi-purpose facility, caters to the community that surrounds it.
“We didn’t have courts big enough to house our 60-team basketball league, and now we do. We also never had any place to play volleyball, and now we have eight volleyball courts,” he said. “To be able to host tournaments and things like that and be state-of-the-art, it’s unreal.”
