MONTGOMERY, Ala. We’ve all noticed the increase in speeding, and the careless and reckless drivers on our local roads and Interstates and now the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s data shows Alabama ranks third for the most fatal road rage crashes.
Alabama has been experiencing a rise in road rage incidents for several years, with a total of 401 fatal crashes reported between 2020 and 2024.
Statewide, police have for years pointed out the increase in traffic fatalities that often result from speeding, aggressive or DUI driving.
Kitchel Law, a Washington-based personal injury firm, analyzed the NHTSA’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and found that between 2020 and 2024, there were 401 fatal road-rage crashes in the state.
The top three states, Colorado, Indiana and Alabama, make up nearly half of all U.S. road-rage fatalities.
Fatalities often occur on two lane roads and limited access roads such as Interstates 10 and I-65.
Recent growth in Alabama, including in Baldwin and Madison Counties, have contributed to the increase in road rage, speeding and traffic collisions and as the growth continues, we can also expect these traffic issues to increase.
Road rage on Alabama roads is a daily thing that police and ALEA have targeted but without the public’s help, it’s almost impossible to stop.
We have reached out to ALEA for statistics on road rage calls and fatalities and we’ll report those statistics in an upcoming article.

The City of Foley has announced on their website upgrades to their farmer’s market and soccer fields.
Here is the announcement:
The City of Foley is moving forward with plans to enhance amenities at the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market (CAFFM) and the city’s Sports Tourism facilities, including the addition of a new commercial kitchen and permanent restrooms.
The Foley City Council recently approved proposals to design the commercial kitchen at the CAFFM. Plans also include constructing new restroom facilities and making property-wide lifestyle and aesthetic improvements at both the market and the Foley Sports Tourism multi-use fields complex.
Upgrades at the CAFFM will feature new recreational and scenic elements, including a landscaped detention pond, a fountain designed as a visual landmark along Baldwin County 20, and a walking path for visitors to enjoy the market and surrounding grounds.
David Thompson, executive director of Leisure Services, said combining restroom construction for both sites into one project is expected to reduce costs and attract more competitive bids.
“The bid for the restroom facility for the CAFFM will be combined with one for the Sports Tourism fields so we can reduce overhead and make the project more attractive for bidders,” Thompson said.
The project includes two permanent restroom buildings. At the CAFFM, the facility will be located between the pickleball courts and beach volleyball court. The second structure will be built at the Sports Tourism Fields near Juniper Street.
The planned commercial kitchen will serve as a resource for local food vendors and entrepreneurs, offering a professional space to expand operations and meet increasing demand.
“We view this kitchen as a vital resource for our community,” Thompson said. “It will not only support the market’s daily operations but also serve as a jump start for local culinary businesses looking to grow.”
Under the council-approved resolution, McCollough Architects will develop design plans for the kitchen project.
The Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market is located at 781 Farmers’ Market Lane in Foley, just north of Baldwin County 20 and east of Koniar Way. The market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

FAIRHOPE, Ala. Another hoax bomb threat was called into the Fairhope Police Department on Sunday night, April 3rd, 2026, making it at least the fourth hoax call to the city in two years.
The Fairhope Municipal Pier was closed temporarily Sunday evening after the Fairhope Police Department received the bomb threat and the Mobile Bomb Squad responded to the area.
According to Fairhope Police, the threat was called into the police department as an outdoor theater performance was taking place on the bluff above the pier.
Police cleared the area as a precaution as officers and members of the bomb squad searched the area and after a “thorough sweep of the area” nothing was found and the area was declared safe.
The pier and bluff were reopened and no injuries were reported.
Similar hoaxes have rattled people in Fairhope on multiple occasions.
The incident is still under investigation.

50 of those jobs will be professional positions, while the other 50 will be in distribution and logistics.
The $10 million facility will be 25,000 square feet — 10,000 in office space and 15,000 in warehouse space — and will be situated on a 10-acre site, according to the release.
The new facility will help with distribution and sales.

Gulf Shores, Ala. The Gulf Shores City Council approved a pre-zoning and annexation request for the Riviera property which creates an opportunity for the city to grow both with new residential properties as well as new commercial development.
The property to be annexed sits at the northwest corner of County Road 8 West and Highway 59. City officials said the move helps guide future growth in a key area.
The Gulf Shores request sought to annex about 36 acres for residential use and 3.6 acres for business zoning. Officials said the application was submitted before a recently adopted moratorium. As a result, the proposal was not subject to the moratorium.
Gulf Shores has limited space to grow with Orange Beach to its East and Foley to the north and right now all the beach communities are looking at ways to expand their cities with limited land availability. A unique but not new method of growing in population can be seen in many beach communities including along Alabama’s Gulf Coast as builders reach for the skies building high-rises which can add hundreds of new residents to an area.
The new property will be zoned R13 for single-family homes. Plans call for 26 residential lots, most ranging from about half an acre to nearly one acre. The smaller section at the intersection is zoned for general business use and is expected to support future commercial activity.
The City Council said that the proposal aligns with the city’s future land use plan. The plan includes goals such as managing growth and improving control over development along major roadways. Officials also noted that annexation helps create more consistent city boundaries, allowing the city to oversee zoning and infrastructure decisions.
The city has already cleared part of the property, and a fill permit was obtained from Baldwin County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for certain wetlands. The remaining land remains wooded. Plans divide the site into residential sections and a commercial corner near Highway 59.
City leaders said managing development in this area is important as Gulf Shores continues to grow.

SUMMERDALE, Ala. On Thursday night at around 7 p.m., while many of us were enjoying dinner or watching a little bit of TV and just relaxing as another work week was wrapping up, a very dangerous plot was playing out in a quiet neighborhood in Summerdale.
The Baldwin County 911 Communications Center received a call that a man, on West Washington Street was holding four people hostage and that he was going to shoot them.
The dispatcher quickly dispatched officers to the home and they in turn immediately requested assistance from other law enforcement agencies including Elberta, Foley, and the Silverhill police, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department and FBI agents according to police chief Michael Gaull.
The Summerdale Fire Department and ambulances were also dispatched to stage nearby should medical assistance be needed.
After further investigation please found that no one was being held, no one had been shot and once again, this had been a hoax, also known as “Swatting”, which is a class C Felony in Alabama.
The chief told us that the investigation is continuing and when the suspect is caught, they’ll face serious consequences.
But on Friday, May 1st, 2026, someone called a bomb threat into 911 saying that a bomb would explode on West Washington Street in Summerdale. This too was a hoax.
But this was not the first incident of its kind in Baldwin County. In fact, it’s at least the fifth swatting incident in Baldwin County in the last two years.
Fairhope has been targeted three different times.
On Monday, December 15th, 2025, the Fairhope police received a call about an active shooter inside the Walmart Store located at County Road 48 and State Highway 181.
Law enforcement responded to the area and cleared the store. After a thorough investigation, police found that there were no active shooters and no threat to the public. The store was allowed to continue their business.
Police deemed the call to be a hoax.
Law enforcement, fire personnel and EMS also responded to a “swatting” incident in the Whitehouse Forks area. A caller said that his father had abused him and that he shot his father. Once again, law enforcement determined that call to always be a hoax.
And Fairhope was once again the scene of a “swatting” incident on New Year’s Eve just as a big celebration was about to take place downtown with thousands of people ready to bring in 2025. This time it was a bomb threat.
Parts of the downtown area were temporarily shut down and roped off by police after a threat against the city was received. According to police, a threat was received online, and officers were immediately dispatched to the downtown area just hours before the New Year’s Eve celebration was to begin.
Police called in the Mobile Police Bomb Squad and a K9 Team from Orange Beach who worked together to clear the downtown business area and thankfully, no explosive devices were found, and the celebration went on without any further threats.
On January 30th, 2025, a bomb threat was called into the Baldwin County Courthouse, prompting the immediate evacuation of everyone in the building. Once again, police searched the entire building and no explosives were found. In this incident, Daniel Ethan Howell was arrested for making a terroristic threat in the first degree. A person who was also involved in the incident, Donald Eugene Ippolito, was charged with Criminal Solicitation by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Alabama passed a new law in 2024 specifically defining and criminalizing “swatting”—the act of making false reports to emergency services to trigger a law enforcement response. Under Alabama Code § 13A-10-9.1, it is a class C Felony to knowingly report false information that causes an emergency response, with penalties escalating up to a Class A felony if the act results in serious injury or death.

MOBILE COUNTY, AL. Another investigation by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and Special Operations Unit, along with the FBI has netted the arrest of an area man.
The unit executed two search warrants today at the home of Clayton Bradford as part of the investigation.
The Mobile County man faces multiple child pornography charges stemming from a case in Mississippi.
Mobile County sheriff investigators say that they have charged Clayton Bradford with multiple child pornography charges stemming from a Mississippi tip.
A cyber tip to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation led to an investigation involving a juvenile victim. Detectives identified Bradford as the suspect, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators also found that Bradford had previously been arrested by the MCSO ICAC unit on multiple child pornography charges.
Bradford, 29, of Mobile, was taken into custody by Mobile authorities and arrested and charged with one count of electronic solicitation of a child, one count of transmitting obscene material to a minor and five counts of unlawful possession of child pornography.
Bradford was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail. As of this morning, he is still incarcerated.

MOBILE, AL. A high-speed pursuit that reached speeds of 120 miles per hour, now leaves the driver accused of fleeing and shooting without regard for the safety of others.
Mobile police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by Corey Bailey-Walker, but he refused to pull over.
The chase started, police said when officers responded to a burglary call near Dauphin Island Parkway and Boykin when they saw Bailey-Walker fire a gun and take off. Police say he later threw the gun out of the window during the chase.
Walker was eventually stopped on Hamilton Road near Dauphin Island Parkway and arrested. He has been charged with discharging a gun, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude, and tampering with physical evidence.
Walker had a total bond of $19,000 with a $300 cash component for one of the charges and has since bonded out of jail.

FAIRHOPE, Ala. The woman arrested by Fairhope police for wearing a penis costume during a no kings protest is now suing the city for wrongful arrest.
Jenae Renae Gamble was arrested in October on Greeno Road when police said she refused to remove a large, inflatable penis costume.
Gamble was found innocent of all charges earlier this month and now wants the city to pay her $2M for wrongful prosecution according to a four-page statement of claim submitted earlier this month.
Gamble is also seeking payment of her attorney fees by the city, a formal apology and acknowledgement that her arrest was unlawful, additional training for all members of the Fairhope Police Department, and a requirement that all new police hires take and pass a U.S. Citizenship Test.
David Gespass, the attorney representing Gamble, said Alabama law requires anyone intending to file a lawsuit against a municipality to submit a notice of claim within six months, allowing the city time to investigate the merits of the claim.
The notice of claim is a prerequisite to filing a lawsuit, Gespass said. He added that the statement applies only to state causes of action against the city, not to federal constitutional claims, which he said the state cannot regulate. He also noted that a claim against a city official in their official capacity is “still a claim against the city and is covered by the notice of claim prerequisite.”
Gamble’s statement accuses the city of false arrest, false imprisonment, and assault and battery, citing state law establishing municipal liability for neglect, carelessness, or unskillfulness by a city agent “engaged in work for the city and acting in line of his duty.”
Her attorney has maintained that the costume was neither provocative or abusive nor obscene.
Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan declined to comment.

THOMASVILLE, Ala. A Thomasville police officer and Marine was laid to rest Wednesday as his family, friends and fellow officers gathered at the Thomasville Civic Center to honor Officer Dallas Hinton, who died in a crash after leaving his shift last week.
It has been a somber week in the community as many paid tributes to the twenty-five-year-old who served his country and his community. Although Hinton had only been a police officer for two years, he had made an impact on the city and those that he served.
Hinton, 25, was a police officer for two years and a former Marine.
Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said the loss has shaken the entire community.
Fellow officers stood in solidarity, paying tribute to one of their own.
“The family has felt it. We all have gathered around this family. Dallas left a legacy of love and support for his family. They lost a brother and we lost a dear community servant and former Marine. He was a hero,” Day said.
Thomasville Police Chief Mitchell Stuckey said that he’ll always remember the day he came in before he died. He was smiling. Laughing. He was such a fine young man. The chief that he was part of the future. He’ll certainly be missed, Stuckey said.
A 21-gun salute outside of the civic center closed the service.
Following the ceremony, a procession left for Tuscaloosa, Hinton’s hometown, where he will be laid to rest.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. At approximately 11:15 a.m., law enforcement attempted to conduct a traffic stop in Summerdale, but the driver fled engaging in a pursuit.
A vehicle pursuit ended in front of Central Baldwin Middle School, where deputies conducted a successful PIT maneuver (The Precision Immobilization Technique) to stop the vehicle and prevent further risk to the public. In doing so, the vehicle flipped onto its side and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
Because the vehicle came to a stop on school grounds, the campus was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution while deputies secured the area.
The suspect did not attempt to enter the school, and there was no direct threat to students or staff.
The sheriff’s School Resource Unit worked quickly with school administrators to implement safety protocols. The lockdown was lifted shortly after the suspect was taken into custody and the scene was secure.
The suspect, identified as Terrell L. Cargill has been charged with:
Obstructing Police- Attempting to Elude Police
Drug Trafficking
Reckless Endangerment
Tampering with Physical Evidence
Drug Paraphernalia-1st Offense
Cargill is currently being held at the Baldwin County Detention Center.

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. Authorities say that a 19-year-old man who was fishing on the Cedar Point Pier with three others fell off the pier and currents swept him underneath. He disappeared, and officials are still looking for him.
A Mobile County Sheriff’s Office official said that a 911 call came in at about 2 a.m. and emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the area.
Chief Deputy Andrew Peak said the man fell while trying to untangle fishing line.
“He was sitting on the banister of the pier trying to untangle some fishing line,” Peak said. “He lost his footing and fell over backwards into the water.”
Rescue crews are continuing their search for the missing fisherman this morning.
Law enforcement said that the currents were moving fast and he was quickly swept away underneath the bridge, but he was able to cling to the pier for a brief period before losing his grip.
Dauphin Island police arrived on the scene quickly and attempted to throw life-saving buoys towards the man but because of the current, the fisherman was unable to make it to those buoys but at some point, he lost his grip.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Mobile County Sheriff’s Flotilla and Dauphin Island Police Department are all assisting in the search efforts. Authorities are actively conducting search operations in the Mississippi Sound and Mobile Bay.
Law enforcement has not released the fisherman’s name at this time.

FLORENCE, Ala. Police in the northwestern part of Alabama say that a man that officers were arresting on Wednesday grabbed their police K-9 and bit the dog while officers were subduing him.
Police said that the man, identified as David Culliver, 46, of Sheffield, was resisting arrest and that their police dog had bitten the man and that’s when he sunk his teeth into the police dog.
Police body camera footage released by the department depicts the encounter between Culliver and police that were helping to execute a search warrant in the 200 block of North Locust Street.
“Culliver was not involved in the investigation and inserted himself into the situation,” the department said in a Facebook post. “He became belligerent, yelled at officers, and stepped into an active roadway with flowing traffic.”
Culliver walked up to officers several times seemingly intoxicated and has several exchanges with them.
After refusing to leave the area, police attempted to arrest Culliver and that’s when he began fighting officers.
During the attempted arrest, Culliver asks why he is being arrested and can be seen struggling as four officers surround him.
Body cam footage from “officer 2” or the K-9 officer shows him behind the four officials and telling them to “watch out” or they’ll get bit.
As one officer holds Culliver’s upper body and another holds his legs, the dog is commanded to bite him.
Culliver grabs the dog’s leg as he is being bitten, and several officers strike him in the head and upper body before he lets go. That is when Culliver bites the dog and is struck several more times before eventually being handcuffed by police.
“The incident has been thoroughly reviewed, and the use of force applied has been determined to be justified,” Florence police said.
Culliver was taken to North Alabama Medical Center to be treated for his K-9 wounds and then taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
He has a $2,500 bond and is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, public intoxication and interfering with a police dog.
