It’s not uncommon to see dolphins swimming in the Gulf waters near Dauphin Island or in many areas of Baldwin or Mobile Counties.
But when a young dolphin washed up on Dauphin Island’s West End Beach Friday morning, that was exciting to witness by locals and visitors alike.
Penney Fountain from Birmingham said that her daughter was one of the first to notice the juvenile Dolphin as others began to flock around, taking pictures and excitedly watching what the dolphin was doing.
Marine biologists are still trying to figure out hours later why this young dolphin washed up on the beach.
Marine personnel immediately rendered aid and took the dolphin to a nearby facility for testing and care until it will released back into the Gulf waters.
