ALEA Special Agent Fatally Shoots Armed Carjacker

MONTGOMERY Ala. May 26, 2025 An investigation is underway after an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officer fatally shot a suspect in Alabama’s capitol city.
Authorities in the area were on the lookout for a person suspected of committing an armed carjacking and robbery Thursday morning. The victim had been shot and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police were notified that the suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was located on Upper Wetumpka Road, where state and local law enforcement attempted a traffic stop.
The driver, Raymond Tellis Jr., 19, of Montgomery, resisted arrest and pulled a firearm from his waistband.
According to authorities, that’s when a special agent with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation fired shots at Tellis, fatally wounding him.
Special agents from outside the Montgomery area were called in to investigate. Findings will be turned over to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
The victim of the carjacking remains hospitalized.
