Shelby County School Resource Officer Hit DUI Driver

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala.
A driver has been charged after a Shelby County deputy was struck by a vehicle Thursday at Mt. Laurel Elementary School.
Shelby 911 received a call at 1:35 p.m. about a pedestrian, who was the school resource officer, struck in the car rider line.
Medics from Cahaba Valley Fire took the deputy to a hospital for an evaluation. The deputy has since been released from the hospital, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff John Samaniego requested that Hoover Police Department investigate the accident.
Hoover police arrested the driver, Douglas Frederick Sweet II, 43, of Birmingham. He is charged with driving under the influence.
Sweet was booked into the Shelby County Jail and has been released on bond.
