BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. A moving violation on Interstate 65 early Saturday morning resulted in more than just a ticket. It turned out to be much more trouble than he probably expected.
An ALEA trooper stopped the vehicle, a Honda Elantra, for speeding near mile marker 42 northbound, and during the trooper’s interaction with the driver, who was later identified as Lionel Brown, 50, a gun was found.
The trooper ran the serial number on the handgun to ensure that it wasn’t stolen, but it was. Authorities confirmed that the weapon had been reported stolen and that another law enforcement agency had investigated the theft.
Brown was taken into custody and charged with Receiving Stolen Property in the Second Degree, a class C Felony.
Brown was transported to and booked into the Baldwin County Detention Center, where he later posted a $5000 bond and was released.
Later in the day, also on Interstate 65, another state trooper stopped a second speeding vehicle and also found a stolen handgun that was stolen in Georgia.
That was was also arrested on a felony receiving stolen property charge
and booked into the jail.
