SPANISH FORT, Ala. While other cities in Baldwin County reelected their mayors, the City of Spanish Fort voted the current mayor out and elected a new mayor.
There had been a lot of waiting, conversation and anticipation most of the day in the city, but the
Political newcomer, Brad Bass overwhelmingly was the winner with 1,451 votes. The incumbent mayor of 13 years, Mike McMillan, received 572 votes, and a third candidate, Lauren Cress received 30.
Mayor Mike McMillan ran on a platform of experienced leadership and proven track-record, but after multiple terms in office, came up short tonight, and Spanish Fort will move ahead under new leadership.
Some of the issues that Bass addressed during his campaign included:
Public safety improvements
Increased transparency at city hall
Retail revitalization aligned with our city’s Comprehensive Plan
Upgraded Senior Only Facility with transportation options
Upgrade to athletic facilities
Improve connections between our rapidly growing city’s neighborhoods
Working to improve traffic issues east of Highway 181
Brad Bass was surrounded by family, friends, and supporters as the results were read out loud in front of City Hall Tuesday night. Excitement filled the air as Bass shook hands and hugged his supporters.
Bass is a long-time Baldwin County resident and has spent nearly two decades in healthcare marketing. He was also appointed to the Spanish Fort Cooperative Improvement District Committee in March of this year.
Brad Bass will take office this November.
