The snow stopped Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. but the roads continued to freeze into sheets of ice. Cars continued driving on the roads, many crashing into each other, ditches or into the wooded areas along the Interstates.
Though the sun came out Wednesday morning, and the temperatures began to rise, which melted some of the snow, many areas along Interstates 10 and 65 continued to be the scene of multiple wrecks, several with injuries.
Though the sun was shining, many shaded areas remained slick, icy and
some were covered with black ice.
During the day Wednesday there were at least six separate 18-wheeler wrecks that included rollover accidents, jackknifed trucks and rear-end collisions all due to slick and slippery roads.
Police noted that drivers were not slowing down nor being cautious on many area roadways.
The road conditions Wednesday evening was so bad that the State of Florida shut down I-10 at the Alabama/Florida line starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening due to icy conditions.
Although the total number of crashes in Mobile and Baldwin Counties were not available, our news desk tracked more than one hundred crashes during a forty-eight-hour period.
