Pritchard Police-Sheriffs Office Make Arrest in Recent Shooting

PRITCHARD Ala. On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at approximately 2:30 pm, The Prichard Police Department received a call reporting a male shot at 736 Reynolds Ave. The caller, who was also the victim, stated he had been shot by his neighbor.
Pritchard police and fire departments were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, Prichard Police found the victim and EMS transported him to a local hospital where he immediately underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.
The shooter, MIYA HOUSTON (DOB 10/24/78), was detained at the scene by Prichard Police and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Unit were contacted and responded to the location at approximately
The investigation revealed that the victim and HOUSTON reside in a duplex, with the victim on one side and HOUSTON and her elderly mother on the other.
MCSO Detectives interviewed HOUSTON and her mother, who was present during the incident.
HOUSTON stated that a homicide occurred near her residence last year, she believed the victim and his family suspected her involvement. She also claimed to have reported to both Prichard Police and Mobile Police Department that the victim was following her.
On the afternoon of the shooting, HOUSTON stated she was at home caring for her mother when she heard someone enter her residence. HOUSTON retrieved her .22 caliber firearm and told the female intruder to leave. According to HOUSTON, the female then went next door to the victim’s home.
HOUSTON reported seeing the victim come outside, after which an altercation ensued between them, leading to HOUSTON shooting him.
A search warrant has been prepared for several cameras located at the residence.
MIYA HOUSTON has been transported to Mobile Metro Jail and charged with Assault 1st Degree.
Currently, there is no update on the victim’s condition.
