Person With Minor Gunshot Refuses Help in Fort Morgan

FORT MORGAN, Ala. Usually when a person is shot, they can’t wait until help arrives.
But not always, as some local firefighters and EMS found out on Saturday.
It seems that on July 18th, 2026, at around 2:04 p.m., the Fort Morgan Fire Department, Medstar, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department and a medical helicopter were all dispatched to the Rookery 3 located at 5781 Highway 180 for a person who was shot in the foot.
Fort Morgan firefighters arrived first and began to render aid, but the patient said he was fine although firefighters said that the man accidentally fired a handgun and shrapnel hit his foot.
The patient soon decided that he wasn’t waiting around for law enforcement or the ambulance and decided against any help.
In some emergencies, first responders can force treatment upon a person who is either mentally or physically incapacitated and unable to make a rational decision or if the person is unconscious or unable to give consent.
However, since the injury was minor and the patient refused help, the man signed a release document and went on his way and all emergency personnel returned to service.
