Person Shot at Spanish Fort Publix

A customer at the Publix Store in Spanish Fort accidentally shot himself in the leg while sitting in a vehicle.
The Spanish Fort police and fire departments responded to 10179 Eastern Shore Drive at around 11:10 a.m. Sunday morning, April 6th, 2025, and found a man with a gunshot wound and bleeding in a vehicle.
A police officer quickly applied a tourniquet to the person’s leg to aid in stopping the bleeding.
A Medstar ambulance arrived and took over the treatment of the patient.
Due to weather conditions at the time of the shooting, no medical helicopters were available to transport the injured person to a trauma center.
An ambulance provided ground transport to the USA trauma center in Mobile.
No other injuries were reported.
