Pedestrian Dies after Being Struck by a Vehicle on Azalea Road

MOBILE, Ala. Police are continuing an investigation into the fatal pedestrian death that occurred on Thursday morning, October 9, 2025.

Mobile police reported that at approximately 7 a.m. a 68-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle while he attempted to cross Azalea Road near Airport Boulevard.

Despite the efforts of the responding firefighters and medics and the medical staff at a nearby hospital, James Bates succumbed to his injuries in the emergency department.

Police have not released the name of the vehicle’s driver or if any charges were pending.

However, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
