Owner of Malnourished Dog Who Died Arrested

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home after a neighbor reported that a dog had been tied up outside for several days without food and water.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the dog malnourished dog without proper shelter and with no food or water. Deputies said the dog was in poor condition and was immediately taken to the veterinarian, where the dog was diagnosed with parvo. The dog died shortly after.
Parvo is a viral disease that is more commonly found in puppies between six weeks and six months old. Symptoms of this include severe tiredness and weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and fever.
According to the sheriff’s office, the dog’s owner, Roderick Heflin was on a trip when he left his dog outside, on a leash.
Deputies returned to Heflin’s home when he got back from his trip and arrested him.
According to jail records, Heflin is out on a $1,000 bond.
