New Roundabout Opens in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. The latest roundabout in our area has been completed according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.
According to ALDOT, the SR-161 North Roundabout, located near County Road 8 and Gulf Shores High School, has now been opened to drivers on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026.
According to ALDOT, this is the final installment of the Waterway Bridge project.
Officials said the new roundabout gives drivers better access to SR-161, Roscoe Road, County Road 4 and other local roads.
The new roundabout will make it safer for drivers along SR-161 which as many improvements that are designed to provide additional capacity, improve traffic flow and give residents and visitors more travel options along Alabama’s Gulf Coast,” officials said.
