MOBILE, Ala. Multiple law enforcement agencies including the F.B.I., Secret Service and Mobile Police are conducting a fraud investigation after the city of Mobile was scammed out of nearly $15 million dollars.
The scheme, which was just made known to the public, involved transferring $14.7 million to a ‘fraudulent entity’ after it was the target of a criminal scam.
And while authorities verified that this incident really occurred, exact details of how it occurred or who was involved, have not been released.
“We are cooperating fully with investigators and taking every available step to recover the funds and bring the responsible party to justice,” a recent news release read.
Law enforcement is working to identify the culprits and recover the funds.
City officials said the incident will not affect the city’s financial stability due to the “strong financial reserves and other available contingencies.”
