BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. One of the many new laws that went into effect on October 1st is called Lulu’s Law, which established a shark alert system for beaches and shorelines in Baldwin and Mobile counties to alert swimmers and beachgoers that there may be sharks in the nearby water.
The law is named after Mountain Brook teenager Lulu Gribbin, who was attacked by a shark last summer. She lost both a hand and a portion of her right leg in the attack.
The new law allows local emergency management agencies to send out alerts on all mobile devices within a certain radius of shark sightings.
Additionally, lifeguards and local first responders are also notified.
