Mobile Police Make Quick Arrest in Fatal Shooting

Mobile police received a call of a person being shot on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at approximately 6:18 p.m., and officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of Cherry Ridge Court W., in reference to one person being shot.

Mobile Fire-Rescue was also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim was struck by gunfire. Orlando Smoots, Jr., 24. was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police were able to quickly identify who the shooter was and located Damion Blackman, 19.
After speaking with Blackman, he was arrested and charged with Manslaughter and was then transported to the Mobile County Metro Jail.
