MOBILE, Ala. A Mobile Police detective who became the subject of an internal affairs complaint after his son was involved in a wreck last year has been fired.
Off-duty Detective Gary Rogers responded to a fatal accident in November 2024 where his son, Dawson Rogers was driving a car on Lott Road that collided with a car driven by Nolan McDavid.
Dawson Rogers, who was 17 when the crash happened, was arrested and recently indicted on one count of extreme indifference murder.
Investigators said Dawson Rogers was driving under the influence and was going more than 100 miles per hour, seconds before the crash.
A witness to the crash notified Mobile police that Dawson’s father, who was employed by the Mobile Police Department at that time, acted unprofessionally and an internal investigation was conducted.
It is unclear if the termination is connected to the complaint or why he was terminated. A spokesperson for the Mobile police stated that it was a personnel matter.
The termination comes just a few months after a complaint was filed against Rogers.
McDavid was a student and member of the film society at the University of South Alabama at the time of his death.
