Mobile Fire-Rescue Chief Johnny Morris Jr. Retiring After 35-Year Career

MOBILE, AL. On Tuesday, it was announced that the current fire chief in Mobile would be retiring, though somewhat abruptly.
Mobile Fire-Rescue Chief Johnny Morris Jr. is retiring after a 35-year career.
Morris was named the city’s fire black fire chief in November 2023.
Public Safety Director Rob Lasky stated that Friday is the chief’s last day.
Lasky called him a “true hometown hero,” who graduated from LeFlore High School and then worked his way up the ranks.
Lasky said that under Morris’ tenure, complaints about the department declined dramatically.
