Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Makes Arrest in Pritchard Murder
MOBILE COUNTY Ala.

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 1:00 am, Mobile Police Department
Homicide Investigators responded to a local Hospital in reference to a deceased black male victim who was transported by a black female in her personal vehicle.
The black female was described to have braided hair with red collared tips and
was driving a silver Lexus SUV.
Mobile Police has identified the victim as Lazarus Tanksley and discovered that he lives at 728 St. Stephens Road, Prichard, Alabama.
Mobile police officers responded to the victim’s address in an attempt to locate a crime scene. While on the scene, MPD Investigators made contact with a witness who was there at the time of the shooting.
At that point because the crime had occurred outside of the Mobile city limits, officers contacted the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office to take over the scene and continue the investigation.
Mobile County deputies interviewed the witness on the scene at the time of the shooting and he stated that he assisted in loading the victim into the suspect’s car, a silver Lexus SUV.
The witness stated he did not know the suspect’s name but knew she was the ex-girlfriend of the victim. He described her as a black female, with braids and red tips on the braids.
Surveillance video at Hospital showed the same female dropping the victim off at the hospital.
On Wednesday, at approximately 11:00 am, MCSO Major Crimes Detectives received a phone call from another witness who was on the scene at the time of the shooting. The witness stated that she traveled to the victim’s residence with GENESIS CARSTARPHEN TANKSLEY. She stated GENESIS and the victim were arguing and then she heard a gunshot. She fled the scene on foot and has not seen or spoken to GENESIS since the shooting.
The sheriff’s office was able to locate GENESIS and she is currently in the custody of MCSO and being interviewed about the shooting.
