ORANGE BEACH Ala. One man is deceased after a drowning incident at Wolf Bay.
The man jumped from a vessel into the bay on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at around 3:47 p.m. and he disappeared and did not resurface.
Police said that the man jumped from a 2023 Bentley Legacy 200 Cruise pontoon and when he did not resurface, 911 was called.
Multiple emergency agencies responded Wolf Bay near Sapling Point within Baldwin County.
At approximately 10:14 p.m. on Sunday, DeWayne N. Stephens, 55, was recovered by the Daphne Search and Rescue Unit with the assistance of Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division near the same location he entered the water.
In the U.S., an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 people drown each year, averaging 10 fatal drownings per day. Living in a community which is surrounded by water means that local residents must stay aware of the dangers.
ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers are continuing to investigate.
