Illegal Mexican National Charged With Assault-DUI in 5 Car Wreck

SUMMERDALE, Ala.
A five-car accident that we reported on in Summerdale last week has now resulted in the arrest of an illegal Mexican man who was driving under the influence of alcohol.
The multi-vehicle collision occurred on State Highway 59 and injured several people.
43-year-old Mexican national Domingo Tomas has been charged with has been charged with first-degree assault and DUI.
On April 18th, officers said four vehicles were sitting stationary at a red light when a fifth vehicle approached the intersection.
The wreck, which occurred at the intersection of County Road 32 and State Highway 59 at around 7:15 p.m. sent fire departments from Summerdale and Robertsdale to the scene along with several ambulances and law enforcement.
Police reported that several people were entrapped and that firefighters had to extricate them from the wrecked vehicles.
A medical helicopter was also dispatched to the scene for a critically injured patient.
State Highway 59 northbound was shut down for more than an hour.
According to the crash report, Tomas was going north on Highway 59 and as he approached a red light at County Road 32, he didn’t slow down and slammed into a car that was stopped at the light, causing a chain reaction crash.
Police arrested Tomas for driving under the influence and said his blood alcohol content was 0.247, more than triple the legal limit.
Tomas is being held at the Baldwin County Jail for assault in the first degree and DUI and he also has a hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
