High Speed Chase Ends in Stand-Off With Troopers
MONTGOMERY Ala.

An Alabama pickup driver was arrested Monday after leading law enforcement on a chase along state roads, crashing the vehicle and allegedly firing at police during a standoff, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Lt. Jeremy Burkett said.
A State Trooper with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division attempted to stop 47-year-old Ramer resident Maxi D. Evans — who was driving a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup — around 4:40 p.m. on U.S. 231 near County Road 7707 in Pike County, Burkett said.
Evans did not stop, which led to a pursuit that culminated in Evans crashing on Alabama 94 near the 17-mile marker in Montgomery County, Burkett said.
Evans, who was armed with a handgun, fired at law enforcement responding to the scene — which included Special Agents with ALEA State Bureau of Investigation’s SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Unit and deputies from the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office, Burkett said. No officers were struck or injured.
After negotiations, authorities were able to resolve the standoff and apprehend Evans.
ALEA said Evans was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment following the pursuit and standoff. Evans is now facing charges of attempting to elude, with additional pending firearm charges and will be booked into Pike County Jail, according to the release.
ALEA did not immediately release any other information about the incident.
