He has led the men in blue in the City of Gulf Shores for fifteen years, but now, Chief Ed Delmore has stepped down as police chief.
Although the Chief’s current contract does not expire until November, the official announcement came at Monday night’s City Council meeting.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, that the Chief had decided to retire.
Chief Delmore had been absent for several of the last council meetings which also left some to wonder what was going on.
Those who know the Chief personally say it’s a bit of a surprise and wonder what’s really going on behind the scenes.
But Mayor Craft said that the Chief will have a new role in with the city and as a consultant and he’s still earning his money going through the end of his contract. He’s just under a special consultant to the mayor and the council.”
Delmore was one of Craft’s first administrative hires when he became mayor and he’s proud of the direction the city has gone under his leadership.
Deputy Chief, Dan Netemeyer will assume the role of the Police Chief for the time being. Netemeyer has a long history of community policing at the local level and worked with the FBI. He was brought in by Delmore to be his right hand several years ago and Craft is confident in his ability to run the department.
There have been no comments coming from the now, retired police chief.
