A community-wide service day has been announced by the Gulf Shores City Schools.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, students will head out into the community completing dozens of projects on the list.
Last year, more than 3,000 participants participated in a similar event completing more than 100 projects.
This year, the school has some new projects on the agenda and Superintendent Dr. Matt Akin expressed enthusiasm, stating that this year’s event will showcase the community’s spirit. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Harrison added that the day fosters a culture of giving and strengthens local connections.
The initiative, led by the Gulf Shores City Schools’ Mental Health Advisory Committee, offers several ways for residents to get involved:
Create Your Own Service Project: Residents and organizations are encouraged to plan and execute service projects in their neighborhoods.
Sponsor School Projects: Community members can support student initiatives by providing essential supplies, such as gloves for beach cleanups and materials for gift baskets.
Join a Community Project: Volunteers can sign up for various pre-organized service opportunities throughout the city via the Volunteer Sign-Up Form on the Gulf Shores City Schools website.
Students and teachers have already committed to numerous projects, including beach cleanups, park revitalization, building a sensory trail in Gulf State Park, meal deliveries to those in need, and activities at local nursing homes. Student-led initiatives continue to grow, with school counselors supporting additional project ideas from motivated students.
In case of bad weather, activities will move to the backup date of February 28, 2025. For more information, to register a project, or to sign up as a volunteer, visit the Gulf Shores City Schools website or contact Dr. Stephanie Harrison at sharrison@gsboe.org.
