Gulf Coast First Responders Have Busy Weekend

First responders on both sides of the Mobile Bay had a very busy weekend responding to five homicides, more than a dozen serious wrecks that included many injuries and an array of medical emergencies and other 911 responses.
Mobile police, Mobile Fire-Rescue and area medical responders were called to a triple homicide Saturday, in the area of I-10 eastbound and Theodore Dawes Road. They had also responded to a double homicide on the previous day.
Along with dozens of medical calls that Mobile responders answered during the weekend, there were also several crashes with injuries.
In Baldwin County, Fort Morgan firefighters and law enforcement responded to a boater in distress call. Several persons riding sea-doo’s were in distress ten miles offshore. The Coast Guard were also notified but they were canceled after the vessel operators were able to make it back to shore on their own.
Fairhope firefighters, police and EMS responded to a four-vehicle crash Friday morning on US 98 @ State Highway 104 and just before 2 p.m. responded to structure fire on County Road 34 where they and a number of other fire departments battled the fire and were on-scene for several hours.
At almost the same time, the Elberta Fire Department were also called to a fire, a vehicle that was parked at the Circle K.
The Robertsdale Fire Department also answered an array of emergency calls including brush fires, motor vehicles accidents and medical emergencies.
The Rosinton and Loxley Volunteer Fire Departments were called to Interstate 10 numerous times over the weekend for serious wrecks with injuries including two that involved 18-wheelers.
One wreck in the early morning hours was challenging for Loxley firefighters, EMS and police because three people were entrapped in the vehicle after hitting an 18-wheeler and getting entangled into the guardrail.
All occupants were removed and transported to an area hospital.
On Saturday morning just before 9 a.m., the Barnwell Fire Department, EMS and law enforcement responded to a crash on May Ann Beach Rd which shut down the road for more than hour and police also had to redirect traffic at the intersection if US 98.
Later in the day, the department also were called out for another vehicle crash and a medical emergency call.
Also on Saturday afternoon, the Magnolia Springs Fire Department responded to a structure fire in their community on John Hall Lane and mutual-aid fire departments assisted them in extinguishing that fire.
Less than two hours later, the Fairhope Fire Department found themselves responding to a report of another structure fire.
Smoke was reported at the Refuge Coffee shop on Greeno Rd.
Once again, automatic mutual-aid response brought several other area fire departments to the scene.
Firefighters reported that a piece of equipment had malfunctioned and caused the smoke.
The Spanish Fort Fire Department and Summerdale Fire Departments responded to more than a dozen calls for help and the City of Daphne and Foley Fire and police departments answered the most emergency calls for service over the weekend.
Daphne, Foley, Fairhope and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office stayed busy as well, answering calls about disturbances, accidents, thefts and an array of other 911 dispatches.
