Gateswood Fire Department Responds to Emergencies on Styx River

GATESWOOD COMMUNITY Ala. Two separate emergencies that occurred on the Styx River over the weekend were responded to by the Gateswood Volunteer Fire Department.
On Saturday, May 17th, 2025 at around 12:20 p.m., the fire department along with an ambulance was dispatched to the area of 25030 Goat Cooper Road where a person on a boat who was fishing on the river was having a possible stroke.
Emergency responders found the ill person and a medical helicopter was also dispatched to the area.
The person was transported to an area hospital.
About four hours later, the same fire department was dispatched to the same river for an injured person who was also in a boat floating down the river.
Firefighters and EMS this time were called to the area of 25079 Goat Cooper Road where a person was injured and had a possible broken ankle.
That person was first treated at the scene and then transported to an area hospital.
Area fire departments including Styx River, Rosinton, and Gateswood are regularly called to the area of Styx River for emergencies.
