ATMORE, Ala. This year, statewide, more than two dozen people have been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, phones, and other prohibited items into state correction facilities, and that includes the arrest of more than a dozen correctional employees.
Now, once again, authorities say that four more people have been arrested after a person was seen throwing a package over the fence at Fountain Correctional Facility.
According to an Alabama Department of Corrections news release, staff at FCF reported seeing the person throw the package over the fence around 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 26.
The man seen throwing the package over the fence was then seen getting into a gray car and leaving the prison, according to the release.
Baldwin County deputies and K-9 agents were made aware of the situation and given the car’s tag number.
Law enforcement officers said they stopped the vehicle heading southbound on I-65 at mile marker 32.
The release said officers found seven cell phones and 221 grams of marijuana when they searched the car.
The four people who were arrested include Sylvia Turner, Shelby Turner, Jacory Mitchell, and Jayden Armstrong.
They are charged with distribution of marijuana, possession of marijuana I, prohibited activity, and promoting prison contraband I and II.
