MOBILE, Ala. Paul Pine, the former Mobile Police Chief, has announced that he’ll run for Mobile County Sheriff in the upcoming elections.
Prine said that he believes that the citizens of Mobile County deserve to have a sheriff that offers transparency and accountability.
Prine said that the current sheriff doesn’t let the public know what they’re doing and that there is little reporting coming out of the sheriff’s office.
He pointed to his time as Mobile police chief, saying crime dropped to a 38-year low under his leadership.
Prine stated that running for the mayor of Mobile gave him the chance to tell his side of his story about being terminated as the police chief by Mayor Sandy Stimpson.
“This race is about convincing voters who is going to be the best person to serve in that capacity,” Prine said.
Current Sheriff Paul Burch has already announced plans to seek re-election.
Prine has served the public in law enforcement for three decades
He said the Sheriff’s Office must reduce crime in rural areas while addressing crime and its perception within the City of Mobile. Prine said those issues affect the entire region.
