Former Bayou La Batre Police Officer Indicted on Rape Charges Involving Children
MOBILE, Ala.
A Mobile County Grand Jury secretly met and issued indictments against former Bayou La Batre police officer William “BJ” Squires on Tuesday.
The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, working with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office was able to secure enough evidence to present to the grand jury charging Squires with first-degree rape with force, second-degree rape of a victim 12 to 16 years old, sexual abuse by force and sexual abuse of a victim 12 to 16 years old.
Warrants were served on Squires Tuesday morning according to Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood.
The grand jury set Squires’ bond at $110,000.
Last month, Squires was terminated from his job with the Bayou La Batre Police Department after sexual misconduct allegations were made against Squires.
Sheriff Paul Burch in September said the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office was investigating those allegations of sexual misconduct with underage girls. Burch at the time said investigators had received numerous complaints about Squires.
