The Foley Police Department said that they have been receiving numerous calls of a scam targeting local businesses.
At least three times, an individual has called stores asking for cash or gift cards.
Foley police say that the caller poses as a CEO of the company or an investigator and asks the employee to take out cash from the register and purchase gift cards from various local stores.
It appears that the individual tends to call in the evenings, looking to catch the younger employees by surprise.
The Foley Police Department would like to make it very clear that we would never call you and ask for money. Furthermore, no law enforcement agency would ask for money over the phone.
This is an ongoing investigation. Our detectives are working hard to find out who is behind these scams.
If you have any information, please contact the Foley Police Department at (251)943-4431.
