UPDATE: The City of Fairhope has decided to freeze all further residential building permits for 9 months.
It’s no secret that Fairhope is on the top of the list of fastest growing cities in Baldwin County and in Alabama.
Residential communities have been going up in every corner of the city for the past ten years and more and more people are heading to this city on the bluffs.
But now Fairhope is once again considering pausing construction on new housing developments and instating a moratorium on subdivisions and multi-family units for at least the next 6-9 months.
Fairhope also issued moratoriums on residential construction in 2016 and again in 2022 which stopped the building of subdivisions but not single-family homes or commercial construction.
Fairhope’s fast growth is outpacing infrastructure, and public safety demands among other city services.
Sherry Sullivan, mayor of Fairhope, said that a decision will be made soon.
If there is a pause, all current residential construction projects will be allowed to complete their work
