ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. A fatal shooting involving the Escambia County, Alabama sheriff’s office has left one person dead, according to the sheriff.
According to a department spokesperson, deputies were called to a home located on Atmosphere Road on Monday, June 29, 2026, for a report of shots fired during a neighbor dispute.
When deputies arrived, they found that a man had fired a gun and had made violent threats against his neighbors and he also threatened deputies before the man ran into his home.
That’s when, the unidentified man who was armed, barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender.
Escambia County Sheriff’s Office shut down the area and called in the SWAT team and negotiators, but he continued to refuse to come out, according to the ECSO.
According to an updated news release, they had to use an armored vehicle to hit the front door of the home. That is when the man exited the back of the home with a shotgun.
“The suspect was ordered to surrender, and the use of less lethal equipment was unsuccessful,” read the release. “The suspect raised his firearm and pointed it at law enforcement, causing the suspect to be fatally injured by gunfire.”
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is now reviewing the incident which is protocol when another law enforcement agency is involved in a lethal force incident.
