Drowning Reported on Dauphin Island
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala.

An emergency call for help on Dauphin Island Thursday sent law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and a medical helicopter to the west end of the island for a report of a drowning near the 2500 block of Bienville Blvd.
EMS Chief Trey Alderman said that just before 11: a.m. a 911 caller stated that a man had gone under the water and had not resurfaced.
The man who was not identified by authorities but was said to be 75 years old, was pulled out of the water.
According to witnesses, the man went into the water because his 5 -year -old grandchild had gone too far out in the water and the man was trying to save him.
The man was transported by an air ambulance to the hospital in critical condition and later passed away.
