Driver Who Fled Traffic Stop Facing Charges

MOBILE, AL. On Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle they observed committing a traffic violation.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, an adult male passenger exited and began fleeing on foot.
As officers pursued the subject on foot, he dropped a handgun and a green leafy substance believed to be Marijuana, which were both recovered.
The male was apprehended without further incident.
JaJuan Averhart, 43, has been charged with:
Illegal Possession of Prescription Drug, Marijuana 1st, Attempt to Elude, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Certain Persons Forbidden, Resisting Arrest
Averhart was transported to Metro Jail.
