The Alabama Department of Corrections contracts with licensed private security contractors to provide physical security of the facility but during the past year, ADOC officials say that some of those guards have been arrested.
The latest arrest occurred on Wednesday when Cherrilian Phelisa Daisey Ramirez was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substances, second degree possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was working as an employee of Allied Security at the time, a contract security company for ADOC.
The contraband included 3.6 gigagrams of marijuana, 60 THC infused gummies, and other unspecified drug paraphernalia.
Ramirez is being held in Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 bond awaiting a court hearing.
During the past two years at least four guards have been arrested.
This investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
