County Authorities Charge Man with Homicide

WILMER Ala.
Authorities have made a quick arrest in a shooting death that occurred in the Wilmer area of Mobile County.
The shooting happened at around 8:15 p.m. Monday, on the 11000 block of Trace Lane near Wilmer Georgetown Road where law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS were originally dispatched for a shooting victim.
The victim Landon Phillips was found deceased inside of his vehicle.
According to a Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, they were able to develop leads and probable cause to arrest 42-year-old Jason Paul Covington for the shooting death.
Witnesses at the scene state that Phillips and another person were arguing back and forth when Covington came out of the house with a shotgun and told Phillips to leave his property. Phillips attempted to leave but Covington fired two shots, killing Phillips.
Covington has been charged with:
MURDER
POSSESSION OF FIREARM-FORBIDDEN PERSON
DISCHARGING A FIREARM INTO AN OCCUPIED BUILDING/VEHICLE
At this time, law enforcement has not released any other details about this homicide.
