CLARKE COUNTY, AL. Clarke County Sheriff DeWayne Smith has reported that a three-year-old boy died after being found inside a vehicle in the Gove Hill community.
The county sheriff’s office and Grove Hill police, fire and EMS responded to a home on June 12 after the child’s parents reported him missing.
Authorities say deputies and officers arrived at the home and located the child in the back seat of a vehicle within 15 to 20 minutes. Smith said the child was not in a car seat.
Rescue personnel rushed the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from heat exposure.
Investigators have not determined whether the child entered the vehicle on his own or was left inside.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources removed three other children from the home.
The investigation remains active and involves the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Grove Hill Police Department and the First Judicial Circuit Major Crimes Unit.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time, the sheriff said.
