Charges Upgraded to Murder in Stabbing Death

MOBILE, AL. A man previously charged in an assault that occurred on Sunday, July 27, 2025, has now been rearrested and charged with murder.
Police received a call for help at approximately 9:20 p.m., and officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Petit Avenue regarding an assault.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female victim suffering from stab wounds.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Through further investigation, officers learned the victim and the subject had a verbal altercation, which turned physical.
Kenneth Reeves, 69, was originally charged with assault, but the victim, identified as Crystal Varden, 33, has now died from her injuries.
Reeves has now been rearrested and charged with murder, according to the Mobile Police Department.
