BAY MINETTE, Ala. The current Bay Minette Police Chief, Al Tolbert, has announced that he has resigned from his position, as a new mayor, Josh Brown, begins his mayoral term.
Tolbert said in a letter of resignation that the decision follows the recent mayoral election, which newcomer Joshua Brown won, and “discussions regarding the city’s leadership and direction.”
Tolbert said he felt it was “appropriate” that he step down to “allow for a smooth transition under the new administration.”
He did not say if the new mayor had asked him to resign.
Tolbert said that he is proud of the Bay Minette Police Department’s accomplishments during his time there.
“Together, we have strengthened community partnerships, enhanced departmental professionalism, and continued to build a department our citizens can take pride in,” he said.
“This decision was made after thoughtful consideration, and I remain fully committed to supporting a professional and seamless transition of leadership.”
Jimmy Stracener has been named the interim police chief.
