Atmore Police Make Arrest In Homicide

ATMORE, Ala. Police have made an arrest after a shooting Tuesday at an illegal drag race event in Atmore.
Gabriel Hooks, a 17-year-old Escambia High School student, who was at that event, died at the hospital and a 20-year-old woman was taken to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Tuesday evening, police arrested 23-year-old Tyler Hall of Evergreen. He has been charged with murder and attempted murder and is in the Escambia County Detention Center.
According to an Atmore Police Department news release, officers responded to Atmore Community Hospital after being notified that two people were brought to the hospital by private car with gunshot wounds.
Police have said a group of people were gathered on Carver Avenue near 18th Avenue for a race. Following the race, the winners collected their money, and that’s when gunfire erupted, the release said.
More arrests are coming, according to the release.
