HUNTSVILLE, Ala. An Alabama state trooper attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Saturday night on Interstate 565 in Huntsville struck a vehicle trying to elude the officer.
ALEA reported that a 21-year-old Prospect, Tennessee woman died Saturday night in the two-vehicle crash.
Hailie D. Hune was fatally injured just after 10 p.m. when the 2017 Dodge Charger she was driving left the roadway and overturned and then struck a concrete barrier, ALEA said. Her vehicle was then struck by a 2020 Dodge Charger driven by an on-duty trooper with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
Hune was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper, who was driving a marked patrol vehicle, was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
ALEA said Hune was attempting to elude the trooper prior to the crash, which briefly shut down travel on westbound I-565 near the 14-mile marker, by Research Park Blvd., in the Huntsville city limits.
No further information was immediately available as troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue investigating.
