ALEA Reports Fatal Traffic Collision in Choctaw County

CHOCTAW COUNTY, Ala. A head-on collision occurred on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026, at approximately 7:25 p.m.
It has claimed the life of a Toxey man according to ALEA.
Colby R. Austin, 36, was fatally injured when the 2010 Honda Odyssey he was driving collided head-on with a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Anthony T. Jones, 49, of Jackson, Miss.
Austin was pronounced deceased at the scene.
ALEA troopers stated that Jones was injured and was transported to Choctaw General Hospital in Butler for medical treatment.
Derrick W. Gray Jr., 22, of Gaston, S.C., who was a passenger in the Honda, was injured and transported to Ochsner Rush Medical Center in Meridian, Miss. for medical treatment.
Troopers stated that the traffic collision occurred on Alabama 17 near the 103-mile marker, approximately three miles south of Butler, in Choctaw County.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
