MOBILE, AL. A traffic stop that occurred in Loxley in 2023 that ended in the arrest of a Memphis man has just been adjudicated in federal court.
Loxley police stopped a white sedan for an improper lane change. Marshall Bratcher was identified as the driver and was accompanied by an adult female and three juveniles.
Police found a firearm inside the vehicle and found that Bratcher was prohibited from owning or having firearms.
According to a United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Alabama news release, 40-year-old Bratcher was sentenced to 15 years in prison for possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon after pleading guilty.
Bratcher admitted to having marijuana, which led to a search of the vehicle. During that search, the officer found a stolen Ruger P89 pistol under the driver’s seat.
Police then learned Bratcher had used the pistol to kidnap the woman, forcing her to “gather the juvenile passengers into the car,” and leave with him.
Witnesses indicated he was driving erratically with the firearm in his lap until he was stopped by the officer.
“Bratcher is classified as an Armed Career Criminal due to prior violent felony and serious drug offense convictions,” the release said.
According to the Justice Department, those prior convictions include three separate convictions for aggravated assault, as well as convictions for aggravated burglary and conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act, among others.
Because of those felony convictions, Bratcher is not allowed to have a firearm in his possession.
When Bratcher is released from prison, he’ll also be on five years of supervised probation.
