HUNTSVILLE, Ala. Federal and local law enforcement working together, have stopped a plan of violence in the Huntsville area and arrested three people.
Leaders from the FBI, ATF, Homeland Security and Huntsville police, working together, identified a serious and imminent threat to the city of Huntsville on September 10, 2026.
Authorities say that they stopped three men accused of traveling toward the city armed with guns, ammunition and tactical gear, U.S. Attorney Phillip Williams Jr. said.
The three men — 18-year-old Levi Belcher, 28-year-old Anthony Slota and 38-year-old Tadashi Erickson — were arrested and charged with possession of illegal firearms. Belcher is also charged with threatening to kill federal agents.
“He was known to be armed. He has made numerous internet searches for things like improvised explosive devices, the anarchist cookbook,” Williams Jr. said.
Court records, including screenshots from social media, allegedly show Belcher saying he’d “shoot and kill ICE agents on sight.” Another screenshot shows a username on an AR magazine.
“The rhetoric has real-world consequences, and it creates risk for not only officers and agents, but for the communities we serve,” David Fitzgibbons from FBI Birmingham said.
The three men were arrested after ATF agents spotted them in a car driving from Decatur to Huntsville armed with guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and tactical vests.
Photos from an apartment show anti-fascist, anti-police and radicalized propaganda along with 3D-printed guns and grenade casings, according to the report.
According to indictments, the men admitted to “cop watching” by following Huntsville police.
While law enforcement have not given detailed specifics such as their targets, they have acknowledged that this plan was planned out and an imminent threat to the city.
“As to what their original motivations were, I can’t comment on that right now,” Williams Jr. said. “All the signs were there, and we take the threats very seriously.”
