Man Drowns Saving His Son in Fort Morgan

FORT MORGAN, Ala.
A father trying to save his son while swimming in the Gulf off the Fort Morgan shores has died from drowning.
According to authorities, on the evening of June 17, 2026, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Coastal Enforcement Unit responded to a swimmer in distress call in Fort Morgan, along with the Fort Morgan Fire Rescue and Medstar.
According to the sheriff’s office, a man and his son entered the water, and the father attempted to assist his struggling child while swimming. Both individuals were brought back to shore, where life saving measures were immediately initiated.
According to a visitor nearby, h saw the man go below the water several times before being rescued.
The man, whose name has not yet been released yet, was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away.
According to BCSO, he was 40 years old and not a resident of Baldwin County.
The child is safe and receiving appropriate care.
