FAIRHOPE, Ala. On Thursday, February 26, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m., the Fairhope Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 19800 Boothe Road for a vehicle fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a large construction excavator fully involved with heavy flames and brush burning.
Other firefighters and several fire engines quickly arrived and began to battle the fire only to find a secondary fire under the equipment from a fuel leak.
Firefighters were also in an area that did not have fire hydrants and had only the water that was carried aboard their fire apparatus but were able to knock down and extinguish the fire in about twenty minutes.
The equipment suffered heavy damage but there were no reports of any injuries.
This is the second excavator fire in the area in recent months.
