The sad reality of the mental health crisis that America is facing nationwide, played out in a small town today, to the shock and sadness of those who witnessed it and those emergency responders who rushed to help.
A nine-year-old child who was misbehaving at a business on State Highway 59 and was being aggressive and not obeying, began threatening that he was going to commit suicide.
The child, who was upset, was yelling and not responding to any adult.
Police officers, firefighters, and an ambulance were all called to the scene to assist the child.
Without going into the complete details, the child was eventually treated by emergency responders.
We are not identifying the business or parent’s name or the address of the incident to protect the child.
Nationwide, suicide among children between the ages of 15 and 19, has increased annually.
Suicide is now the second leading cause of death, and the leading cause of death for 14- to 15-year-olds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
