2 Crashes Close Spanish Fort Area Of I-10

Two accidents involving six vehicles Friday afternoon shut down Interstate 10 Eastbound in Spanish Fort for about an hour, backing up traffic.

Emergency responders could not get through the traffic from the west so fire engines and ambulances came up the ramp the wrong way to reach those involved.

At first reports, several people were injured and a medical helicopter was dispatched but soon canceled after it was determined that the injuries were not as severe as once thought.

The damaged vehicles were removed and state troopers quickly reopened the Interstate.
