Woman Sentenced in Hit and Run Wreck That Injured Child

ELBERTA, Ala. A woman who was accused of hitting a child with her vehicle and then fleeing the scene and who was arrested in 2024, has now been sentenced for her crime.

Kathern Rolek struck an 8-year-old who had been waiting for a school bus on Krehling Road in March 2024 and was later arrested and pled guilty in court.

The girl was seriously injured and was airlifted to an area trauma center, and has since recovered physically from the injuries.

Rolek was sentenced Wednesday to ten years, but she’ll only serve six months in jail and 36 months on supervised probation.
